Boating
on Bass Lake
- Boating on Bass Lake is year round.
- Bass Lake is a flood control lake that has a
hydroelectric dam and is owned by PG&E. During the
Fall, the lake level is dropped about 20 feet to insure
that there is no flooding and the water is used for
irrigation in the Central Valley. The lake is at its
lowest around the end of October and is brought back
up by mid April. During this time there are no lake
fees or inspections required by the Sheriff's Patrol.
- Bass Lake is about 4 ½ miles long and
½ mile wide at its widest point. While boating
on Bass Lake you must go counterclockwise.
- There are two areas to launch a boat. The Pines
Marina is located at the Resort and there is a fee to
launch and a fee to remove your boat out of the lake.
The other is at the public launch on the south side
of the lake near Miller's Landing Resort – there
is a fee to park your vehicle and trailer.
- Once on the Lake (around May thru September)
you MUST go to the Sheriff's Tower located just east
of The Pines Resort to have your watercraft inspected
for safety and pay a lake use fee to the Sheriff's Patrol.
According to the horsepower of your vehicle the fee
ranges from approximately $32-$63. This one-time fee
is good for the whole season.
- Boat slips can be rented from The Pines Marina
by calling 559-642-3200. Boat slips are very limited
so reserve your slip early.
- As a guest of the Resort you may park your boat
trailer in the upper parking lot at The Pines Resort
at no charge. When you check in, give the Front Desk
Clerk the license number of your trailer and they will
give you a sticker to put on your trailer that is good
for your entire stay. You must detach your vehicle from
the trailer and park the vehicle at your room.
- Jet Skis and Waverunners are allowed on Bass
Lake but must be ridden only in designated areas. They
also require a lake use fee of approximately $50.
- For more boating information and regulations
go to www.basslakeca.com.
- You must be 16 years or older with a valid drivers license to operate any watercraft on Bass Lake unaccompanied by a licensed driver.
Winter
at Bass Lake
- Bass Lake's elevation is 3,400 feet, just at the snowline,
which means it snows about a dozen times a year. During
those times it is rare that the roads are closed and
that chains are required, BUT when traveling in the
area you should always carry chains or have a 4WD vehicle.
- For your safety when it snows at the lake, the
next day is usually icy around the Resort ,so please
bring appropriate footwear.
- All of our Suites have fireplaces. The Resort
supplies Duraflame logs (2 per day) in the Suite for
your enjoyment during your stay. Absolutely no other
logs can be burned in the Suite fireplaces, and only
one log can be burned at a time.
- All 1-bed Chalets have fireplaces and some 2-bed
Chalets have fireplaces. Firewood is not provided for
the Chalets but can be purchased at the Pines Market.
You can burn firewood or Duraflame logs in the Chalet
fireplaces.
